Quarantined and Colorless Thoughts
I don't know what is scarier among the two - events unfolding around us these days OR how various elements of our society are responding to these events.
For the past several years i have observed a hardening of stance. I have lamented the victory of OPINION over FACTS, AGENDA over FAIRNESS, CULT over LEADERSHIP and VIOLENCE over EMPATHY.
2020 was supposed to herald a fresh new perspective or at least this is what i thought. Instead the first 150 days of this year have shown a stream of several thousand migrants forgotten, abandoned and abused by their own in the midst of a pandemic. I've seen young people hunted down simply on the basis of the color of their skin.
I have seen a thousand lies struck down by a simple pardon. I have seen government servants humiliated, I have seen science desecrated and I have seen bullying go mainstream and worshipped.
And yet for the most part a vast majority has accepted this unfairness in quiet outrage. Some have glorified it and propagated it. Kneeling down to a flag is unpardonable but kneeling down on a persons neck till the last gasp of breath escapes him is normalized. Talk about these things and you are looked upon as a harbinger of "doom and gloom".
People coming from south of the border are all rapists and criminals if a few among them commit crimes but the same logic does not hold good for the police force. The same does not hold true of people who see fit to take weapons to a state capitol as an act of open intimidation. Based on the color of the skin they can be "FINE PEOPLE" or "THUGS".
There was a time when the middle path was a well travelled and populated space. There were centrists (right and left) in the political spectrum, bi-partisan was a verb and not a fictitious word. When large scale disruption took place the world came together and tried to find a response. The pandemic was the perfect opportunity to showcase how the world can come together and heal together.
Unfortunately it has turned out to be anything but that. SCIENCE has been quarantined and FAITH has been misused. Selfish, Vain, Egoistical and Narcissist behavior has been worshipped in favor of saving lives. Can all privilege and zero accountability co-exist? Apparently at least in one house it does.
As the world paused and the earth heaved a breath of clean air we had an opportunity to define what the new normal could be and how we could improve the planet and society and leave it in a better shape for our kids.
Sadly it seems not every pause is a meaningful one. Personal convictions aside the world wants to get back to its old ways and in a hurry. The holidays, the shopping and the gluttony of mass consumption cannot wait to resume. It doesn't matter that millions are sick or dead. It doesn't matter that tens of millions have no jobs to go back to. "Thoughts and Prayers" apparently is enough for everything.
When will this end or where no one knows! Will this rot be contained and its direction reversed. I hope it will be!
Change has to begin with self.
Can we please stop categorizing things as TRUE or FAKE based solely on OPINION and BLIND following of a CULT.
Can we pause a moment and let an OPEN heart rather than SHUT EYES lead us to our chosen path.
Can we be human again and NOT a million mouthpieces of a PROPAGANDA not of our own making.
Can we ACT based on our inner CONVICTIONS and NOT out of our INSECURITY and FEAR.
History will judge us not on the basis of who/what we followed but principles we lived by. Everyone will have a LEGACY when they are gone. You are writing yours each day. MAKE it worthy of the beautiful gift of life that nature has given you.
